Review: Matryoshka! Deluxe for kids
Kidoteca has released a new app for the iPhone and iPad called Matryoshka! Deluxe for kids. It is a puzzle game inspired by the classic Russian nesting dolls. These wooden creations are loved by children everywhere and now they can play with them on the iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch.
These are very easy for adults to take apart and put together but for young children they are a real puzzle. The concept of taking apart the dolls and then putting them back together in the correct order can be challenging for the youngsters, but luckily they can play and learn without making a huge mess.
The object is to take apart all of the dolls and then put them back together from smallest to largest. It will teach children important skills such as size discrimination and sequencing, coordination, and the importance of organization. They will also learn about themes and numbers.
Once they have completed the puzzle they will be reward with a fun activity such as popping bubbles, fireworks, and other entreating objects. There is also a timed challenge mode that times you on how long it takes you to complete all of the dolls. The one issue I would like to see in a future upgrade is the ability to track the scores so that you can see if they are improving in time.
Currently Matryoshka! Deluxe for kids is priced at just $0.99 and is available on the Apple App Store now. Check it out your kids will love it. If you are looking for more dolls to keep you child entertained, you may want to check out the deluxe version. It offers 65 dolls.

Review: Guess The City for iPhone & iPad
Guess The City, developed by Nguyen Quang Sang, is a universal application for iOS. The game is simple Try and guess the city based on the picture. The faster you guess the correct answer the more points you collect.
Guess The City is actually a very fun and challenging game. It can be very tricky at times, but luckily you can win hints and even purchase hints via the in-app purchase store. You can also remove the annoying ads at the bottom by paying to remove the ads.
Guess The City has 6 different levels with about 30 pictures to guess on each level displaying over 200 beautiful pictures from all around the world.
The game has Facebook, Twitter, and GameCenter built in so you can track and share you scores with friends. I really like that when you are guessing you get clues right away to see if you are right or wrong. If you get it right you will get a green check and move on to the next one. If you get it wrong you will see a red X. If you happen to spell the city wrong you will not pass but it will let you know that you are close and display an orange mark.
The only issues I have with this game is that it is pretty hard unless you know you cities. Luckily you can get hints though. Also the background music is sorta annoying but you can easily turn that off in the settings and listed to you own music.
Guess The City is a FREE application so check it out on the Apple App Store today and test you knowledge!

Flex – The iOS GameGenie
If you we’re at least born in the 90′s you should know what a GameGenie is right?
Well for those of you who don’t know, a GameGenie was a cartridge that you placed between your game console and game (namely Nintendo Entertainment System, Sega Genesis, etc) that let you modify the game you were playing without actually changing anything inside the original game cartridge, it was all runtime based.
This is what Flex is for iOS
It lets you pull up any application installed on your device, and poke around inside it. Change this, change that, break this, whatever you feel like doing you can do it inside Flex. With Cloud support you can share the “tweaks” you make in Flex with other users who use it.
A simple rundown on how to use it:
- Open Flex and in the “Patches” view hit the “+”
- Choose the App you want to play with.
- Tap on “Add Units…” (these are the actual things that make the changes to the apps)
- Usually you will want to tap the name of the app under “Executable” but this is where experimenting comes in.
- If a dialog wanting you to Process the executable comes up, do so
- Next you will want to choose a class to play with (experiment)
- Next choose a method you want to override (experiment!
) - Ticking a method will setup a unit that basically overrides it to do nothing
- After this you can go back to the “Patches” view and hit the check box to turn your patch on
Currently with Flex you can only override a method to where it doesn’t do anything anymore, advanced stuff isn’t possible yet, if ever.
Flex is currently available from John Coates for $3.99 in the BigBoss Repository
