Apple has officially released iOS 27, the latest major software update for iPhone. The free update is rolling out now and can be installed from Settings > General > Software Update.
The centerpiece of iOS 27 is Siri AI, a more conversational assistant that can draw on personal context, understand what is on screen, take actions across apps, and access broader world knowledge. Apple is initially rolling out Siri AI in English, and the feature requires a supported Apple Intelligence device: all iPhone 16 models and later, or the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Apple Intelligence also expands across the system. Photos gains Spatial Reframing, an Extend tool, and more capable Clean Up editing. Safari can organize tabs by topic and monitor pages for changes, while Shortcuts can be created from natural-language descriptions. Other additions include contextual suggestions in Mail, Calendar, and Messages, plus smarter HomeKit Secure Video features for eligible iCloud+ subscribers.
Beyond AI, iOS 27 adds redesigned child-safety and Screen Time controls, improved search in Spotlight, Photos, and Mail, smoother transitions between Wi-Fi and cellular connections, and refinements to the Liquid Glass design. Apple also says app launches, Photos loading, and AirDrop transfers are faster.
Compatible iPhone models
iOS 27 supports the iPhone 11 and later, along with the iPhone SE (2nd generation and later). Some features require newer hardware and may not be available in every language or region.
How to update
To install iOS 27, open Settings, tap General, and select Software Update. Back up your iPhone before installing, connect it to power, and allow extra time for the major upgrade to download and complete.
