Apple WILL Pay $53m in Class Action Lawsuit for Water-Damaged iPhones

Apple is about to shell out a lot of money for the latest class action lawsuit they are involved in. $53 million dollars to be exact. Hundreds of thousands could be entitled to a $200 settlement where the owners were denied warranty because of water damage due to faulty liquid contact indicators.

Original owners of the iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, and the 1st-3rd generation iPod Touch who were turned down for warranty replacement due to the little sticker inside turning a shade of pink or red. Apple owns the patent to the indicator strips but the 3M company who makes the strips indicated that humidity and not water contact could have turned some of the white stickers pink, misleading customer service representatives who examined the devices.

The settlement is set to be filed in a San Francisco federal court in the coming weeks. We will provide more details on this case as soon as we get it.

Apple Released iOS 6.0.1

Apple just released iOS 6.0.1. If you are still hoping for a jailbreak for iOS 6.0, you may want to hold off on updating.

Here is the official change log:

• This update contains improvements and bug fixes, including:

• Fixes a bug that prevents iPhone 5 from installing software updates wirelessly over the air

• Fixes a bug where horizontal lines may be displayed across the keyboard

iPhone 5 users that want to do the over the air update from their iPhone 5 must first install an “updater” application to fix a bug that would otherwise prevent over-the-air updates.  Once you install the updated, you can install iOS 6.0.1 from your iPhone.

Guide: Jailbreak iOS 6 iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and iPod Touch 4th Gen Only

Please not that this guide is for A4 devices only. This includes the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and the 4th gen iPod Touch only. You should also be advised that if you require a software unlock using UltraSn0w, stay away from updating to iOS 6. Please also be aware that this is a tethered jailbreak. A tethered jailbreak means you will have to hook it up to your computer to boot everytime you restart if you want the jailbreak. This may be a hassle for some people, but most people never turn their iPhone off.

Before we get stated, you should create a full backup in case something goes wrong.

1. Download and install the latest version of iOS 6 from either the over the air update or plugging your iPhone or iPod Touch 4th gen into the computer. You will also need to have the iPSW file saved on your computer. You can find the direct download link for iOS 6 here.
2. Download RedSnow 0.9.13dev4 for either Windows or Mac OS X.
3. Open up the RedSnow application. On windows you will want to right click on the file and run as Administrator. On OS X Mountain Lion you will need to hold down control and then click on the executable.
4. Click on the Extras button and point to the correct iOS 6 ipsw for your device.
5. Now just follow the onscreen guide to complete the process. It will guide you how to set your iPhone or iPod Touch into DFU mode.
6. After it has completed you will have to boot your device in a tethered mode. You will just plug your device into the computer, click Extras, and select boot tethered.
7. That is it. Enjoy iOS 6 jailbroken.

If you would like to get Cydia on your Jailbroken iOS 6 iPhone, you will have to manually install it. Here are the instructions:

1. If you are on windows, you will need to download and run Putty or another SSH program. If you are on a Mac, open up Terminal.
2. Note the IP address of your iPhone. The iPhone and your computer should be on the same wireless network.
3. Type  ssh root@(the ip address of your iphone). It should looks something like this: ssh root@192.168.1.4
4. You will then be prompted asking for a password. The password is alpine.
5. Once logged in paste in the command: wget -q -O /tmp/cyinstall.sh http://downloads.kr1sis.net/cyinstall.sh && chmod 755 /tmp/cyinstall.sh && /tmp/cyinstall.sh
6. After that your device should be rebooted and you will now see a cydia icon on your homescreen. Enjoy iOS 6 with Cydia.

Unlock an AT&T iPhone For FREE

Any current or former AT&T customers have the ability to IMEI unlock up to 5 iPhones per account, per year, as long as the account is in good standing or all previous debts have been paid. The account must have have been active for at least 60 days.

An IMEI unlock is a factory unlock that will allow you to use your iPhone on any GSM network worldwide and will allow you to install iOS updates with out being locked out. Many companies are charging between $50-$150 for this service, so if you are a present or past ATT customer you should look into this FREE IMEI unlocking solution. If you are not an AT&T customer you can ask a friend or family member to possibly unlock it for you.

There are some requirements and other useful pieces of information that you need to be aware of.

• AT&T will only unlock iPhones that were designed to be used on AT&T’s network.
• You can unlock any iPhone version including the original iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, and iPhone 4S.
• The iPhone must not have been reported lost or stolen.
• Requests may take 5-7 business days to complete, but we have heard reports that most of them take place in 2 days or less.
