Apple has just rolled out iOS 17.6.1 and iPadOS 17.6.1, following last week’s release of iOS 17.6 and iPadOS 17.6. These minor updates are now available for download on eligible iPhones and iPads via Settings > General > Software Update. Additionally, Apple has released iOS 16.7.10 for devices that can’t upgrade to iOS 17.

The primary focus of this update is to resolve a critical bug related to Advanced Data Protection (ADP). Previously, some users encountered issues when trying to enable or disable ADP, leading to confusion about whether the feature was active or not. For example, users who attempted to disable ADP might have seen it turned off in the interface, though it remained active for iCloud data.

With iOS 17.6.1, Apple has addressed these issues. Users who had trouble disabling ADP will now receive a notification after the update, asking them to confirm the decision to turn off the feature. Apple assures that users impacted by this bug experienced an expected or higher level of security during the issue.
