I downloaded iOs 4.0 through iclarified, its in zip format therefor i cant do custom restore in itunes. My itunes is telling me that 3.1.3 is available for my phone?? shouldnt it be saying 4.0?
Rename it to .ipsw and then if you are on a mac hold down option and click restore. If you are on a pc hold down shift and then click restore.
i tried but it didnt work…i am using Windows 7…here is what i did….renamed the download file to “iPhone1,2_4.0_8A293_Restore.ipsw” (still in zip format”) then tried extracting into a folder using winrar and then adding .ipsw at the end, still doesnt work????
well if you cant figure out how to rename it, then you should redownload the .ipsw with a different browser.
You can also go to My Computer. Then click Tools and then folder options. Then click the tab that says view. Then uncheck the box that says hide extensions for known file types. Hit apply and then OK. Now try changing the .zip to .ispw.

i tried updating and got 3002 error in itunes 9.2? i am running 3.1.2 on my phone do i have to be at 3.1.3 before i can update?

okay i was doing “Update” where i should’ve held onto Shift+Restore, so it worked now! Thanks alot you guys for your help!
