iOS 5 beta 4 can be installed using over the air software update from devices that have iOS 5 beta 3 installed. Over the air software update can be initiated by choosing General > Software Update in Settings.
Apple has also updated Xcode 4.2 and released iTunes 10.5 Beta 4. More info as we get it. Now go test out the first iOS 5 OTA update!

currently I get the message “Unable to Check for Update. An error occurred while checking for software updates.” when trying to do an over the air update. I do not have access to wifi right now so that may be the problem.
Works great, update my iPhone 4 and iPad to Beta in less than one hour, OTA update rules.
Note you don’t need to be power plugged for the download, but the install requires you have at least 50% battery or to be plugged.
Lion update from beta has been a pain in the ass, but IOS 5 OTA update rules.

I have a question how many betas will there be before it’s gold and fully released as a final version?
LEI Mobile says
as many as it takes to get a stable build. iOS 5 will not be released to the public until the iPhone 5 is released.

Even though, iOS 5 beta 3 was super stable (at least on my iPad 2 & iPhone 4). Beta 4 feels like a Gold Master release (obviously it isn’t) but it sure feels that way.
As I’ve told Mike & Brandon, iOS 5 beta 1+ has brought back the stability that I haven’t felt or seen in iOS since iOS 1.x.x. iOS 2.0 -> 4.3.x have had terrible speeds and terrible experiences overall, as opposed to the experience and the smoothness of everything in iOS 1.x.x.
I’m not sure what they did in iOS 5, but all the animations when opening applications are ALWAYS smooth. Not even when you have like 30 apps open (I’ve experimented), the app opening animation is always flawless.
Apps open faster, and with all of these features, I assumed iOS 5 would be even lagger than iOS 4.3.x, but that’s the complete opposite.
You guys are definitely in for a treat. iOS 5 is the best version of iOS since iOS 1.1.4.
I really hope this is true. I am so annoyed by those jerky animations in iOS 4.x!
