AT&T Cuts iPhone 3G [S] Price To $49; Tries To Grab As Many People Before Verizon Gets iPhone

Hey guys, this morning, it looks like AT&T made a move of it’s own, looks like the iPhone 3G [S] is now going to be $49 per phone (on a 2-year contract). Now, this is very suspicious to me due to all of the rumors going around about Verizon finally getting the iPhone.

To me, it appears as though AT&T is trying to lock in as many iPhone customers as they can before Verizon can get their hands on an iPhone. In 2010, we reported that Apple, Verizon, and AT&T agreed to move the Verizon iPhone announcement until 2011 so that AT&T could sign up as many people as they could before Verizon had a crack at it.

So there you go guys!

Here is AT&T’s press release:

AT&T* today announced a new price for the popular iPhone 3GS – $49.00 – available beginning tomorrow, Friday, January 7, for both new and upgrade-eligible existing AT&T customers. The offer will be available online at www.att.com/iphone, across more than 2,200 AT&T retail locations nationwide and through AT&T business channels, as well as Apple channels.**
