How iPhone Multitasking Works

Multitasking is the biggest feature introduced in the iPhone OS 4.0.  It allows you to run multiple applications at the same time.  Many people have wanted this feature for a very long time and many of the newer phones already have this feature.

Steve Jobs said:

We weren’t the first to this party, but we’re going to be the best.

So far from my experience, multitasking is awesome but requires developers to update their applications for certain features to work.  Pandora does not work currently.  They need to push out the update to the AppStore before we can test all of the multitasking features.

Every time you close an application it stays running in the background. until you double tap the home button to bring up a new dock with all your running applications.  To completely shut down an application you have to press and hold on the application until you see the red minus badge to delete.

I’m glad Apple finally decided to implement multi-tasking, but they should have made the interface more like Multifl0w which has a great visual for managing/switching running apps. For 3G users Multifl0w will still be the only way to get multi-tasking…and I can understand why Apple didn’t extend the feature to 3G devices, because Apple crippled them by the amount of RAM the put in them in the first place.

I don’t know if it’s just me or have you all really slacked off on news. Lei mobile used to have news of iPhone and apple. I check it everyday a couple times a day. I’m turning more towards Digg and TUAW for news. Y’all are probably just busy?

Sorry Josh! Yes we have all been very busy. We are working on getting multiple apps on the iTunes store and trying to follow iPad news on our new iPad site http://hackmypad.com. What type of articles would you like to see more of? We are trying to gather a few sponsors to get some more giveaways going too.

Have you ever thought about merging the two? If you don’t want to focus on apple as a whole company, try remaking this app and focus just on iPhone and iPod. Or the OS itself. Having several different apps that basically do the same thing is a hastle, remember, users today want the simpilist, fastest way to get the information YOU are delivering to them. Unify your apps, I’m sire you could merge the apps. That way users (like me) don’t feel abandoned when focus is on something else. Simplicity.
