T-Mobile is in the process or refarming their towers to support the 1900mhz spectrum which is compatible with the iPhone. www.airportal.de show a map of sightings of T-Mobile 3G/HSPA+ 4G coverage on 1900MHz (PCS/UMTS band II).

The map is unofficial and T-Mobile has not released any information about the refarming process. All they have said is that it should be complete by the end of the year or early next year. This is great news because that means T-Mobile will have compatible towers with the iPhone and the upcoming iPhone 5.

They have also stated that they are adding LTE towers and those will be compatible with AT&T so in the future when LTE is available on the iPhone both T-Mobile and AT&T will be running the same band. Take a look at the unofficial coverage map and please submit updates if you notice 3G/4G on your iPhone.
