AT&T Security Breach: “We Have Not Been Able To Replicate The Issue”

Well AT&T customers, looks like you are still out of luck when it comes to AT&T patching up that security vulnerability that happened when their iPhone pre-order servers went mad. They have issued a statement this morning saying that they haven’t been able to reproduce the issue, and as we all know, if you can’t experience the issue yourself, it is very difficult to fix something you can’t see.

However, AT&T claims that your social security numbers and credit card numbers are not shown. (Weird how they can confirm this while not being able to reproduce the issue, I think it’s a PR scheme to downplay this). We all know that once you log into your account, you have access to everything.

So AT&T, fix this. This may be the biggest sale in your history, but with this kind of PR and this kind of “care” for your customers, including the service quality or security, you are lucky to still have customers. You can thank Apple for that. If any other company’s phone pre-orders had this much trouble, you better believe they would drop you guys immediately.

Here’s their statement from earlier this morning:

“We have received reports of customers inadvertently seeing the wrong account information during the iPhone 4 purchasing process. We have been unable to replicate the issue, but the information displayed did not include call-detail records, social security numbers, or credit card information.

In the meantime, we are looking into this matter.”
