Day 1: Is Apple Unlocking Existing iPhones? “We Sell Unlocked Phones?!”
Well that is the response that I received when trying to call AppleCare. It seems as though Apple has not told anyone at their support lines about the new unlocked iPhones. Even their so called, “senior advisors” didn’t sound like they knew much about it until I called.
They told me something rather odd, they said “we don’t unlock iPhones, if you can find a carrier to do it, they can.”, WHAT?! So, if I want T-Mobile, I have to go to T-Mobile and have them use Apple’s unlock whitelisting database?!
Come on Apple! What’s going on here?!
I bought my iPhone 4 for $879.98 on May 3rd. It’s a week over the return date and for the money I (over) paid for this thing, I expect an unlock! Apple, it’s not our fault you don’t tell people that unlocked phones are coming on (insert date here), if you did, we would wait to buy them on that date so we could get an unlock.
Apple, get your act together and let people unlock their iPhone 4s! At least the ones that were purchased unsubsidized in 2011! What do you have to lose?! Nothing! We already bought the phones at full price!
Call Apple, and ask for an unlock, if you guys get them to unlock your iPhone, let us know.
I really hope that this is a communication error and that we will be able to unlock the iPhones that we bought, off contract.

Very late breaking news (3:15a.m. late breaking…) but it seems as though MuscleNerds ready to release the iOS 5 jailbreak that is for iOS developers only. This is not for general use. No one, except developers, should use this.
I am very shocked. I didn’t expect them to release the updated jailbreak since they traditionally don’t release jailbreaks for beta versions of iOS.
They haven’t done this since iOS 1.2 (2.0) was being created, but today, they are doing it again.
Keep in mind, this is a tethered jailbreak, so if you want to reboot, you will need the help of a computer.

Rumor: iPhone Carriers To Allow Unlimited iCloud Streaming?
Hey guys, now, this is in no way confirmed or even a shred of evidence to support this, but it is a thought I have had for the past few months, so bear with me.
I believe that Apple’s iCloud service will fail, unless, it has the full support of their carrier partners, especially Verizon & AT&T here in the U.S. As you may know, AT&T has moved to tiered data (for it’s iPhone data plans) and a very stingy 2GB data cap. Verizon is due to do the same thing “this summer”, so what does this mean for those iPhone & iPad users that rely on their 3G data carrier for data?
Well, unless Apple has struck deals with carriers, it will mean that they won’t be able to use iCloud.
This is not good. It’s not good because I see a lot more iPhone 4s than I do older iPhones, which means that they are on the newer (tiered) data plans. I see hundreds of iPhone 4s a day here (at least here in Iowa, not sure about elsewhere).
However, if Apple does what I think is the logical solution, then everyone should be happy.
Here’s what I believe will happen, Apple will introduce iCloud and price it at either $39 or keep it at that same $99 a year price. Then, Apple will say that they have partnered with AT&T, Verizon, O2, Optus, Telstra, T-Mobile, and Vodafone to offer unlimited iCloud streaming on their networks without touching their existing tiered data plans.
It makes sense.
Again, we will be covering WWDC 2011, live, as it happens on June 6th @ noon (central time).

Alan: I’m In Line At My Local Best Buy; Here’s The Madness!
[UPDATE]: I was at the Apple Store, but then I ran to the Best Buy store.
Hey guys, I am at the Apple Store and let me tell you, it’s pretty crazy. I got in line at about 2:15p.m and already, there are tons of people.
Since I’ve gotten here, about 20 more people got in line, this is crazy.
This is my first Apple launch so I’m a bit amaze at how many people want the iPad 2.
As Michael reported earlier, Apple.com sold out of the iPad 2 in mere hours.
I’m going to be documenting my experience with pictures and stuff as the day goes on!

LEAK: Looks like at 4:00p.m. they are going to be writing who gets what. I hear they only had 101 iPads.

I had to run to the Best Buy store. I am 8th in line! Yay!
