iOS 4 GM Jailbroken on iPhone 3GS
Not even a day after the iOS 4 GM was released to developers, it has already been jailbroken. Please note that this guide is for iPhone 3GS users only and will most likely not last that long as the GM version will be replaced on June 21. The official release by the Dev Team will be available soon. This apparently preserves your baseband so you can unlock your phone with ultrasn0w or blacksn0w.

There are some things that should be mentioned.
- you should have your SHSH-Blobs saved in order to reverse the update and be able to go back to 3.1.2
- Old bootrom (untethered JB) iPhone 3GS required!
- No lockdown patch => you need an official operator SIM to activate.
- You need to restore the ipsw from a recovery mode on a jailbroken 3.1.2 or 4.0 Beta fw; Spirit JB doesn’t patch iBoot and cannot be used to restore to custom firmware.
- You also need to replace Cydia bundle with a newer version because the one in PwnageTool 3.1.5 crashes on 4.0.
Extract the data.tar from deb in 7Zip or other tool and use ‘tar xpvf data.tar’ while in ‘PwnageTool.app/Contents/Resources/CustomPackages/CydiaInstaller.bundle/files/’ directory to update Cydia bundle shipped with PwnageTool.
You need to be on 3.1.2 with redsn0w in order to jailbreak. You can’t jailbreak with 3.1.3 on spirit.

Hey guys, today has been very interesting. Like most great discoveries, they happen on accident. We have tested (extensively) and have confirmed that the iPad does not require apps to be code signed!
Brandon and I have been hard at work on some projects here internally at LEI Mobile and during this, we uncovered a rather interesting piece of knowledge. The iPad doesn’t require apps to be code signed in order to run them!
Now, we ruled out “Spirit” as a cause for this, and we ruled pretty much everything else out. No other device does this.
To have a definitive answer, Brandon made a very simple, yet crucial, application for the iPhone OS. It was a simple application that we dubbed “n0S1gn”.
This would be the ultimate test to see if our discovery can be presented as fact.
We simply wrote this simple app, and didn’t sign it. It’s a completely unsigned binary. We didn’t code sign with either Apple’s Developer (official) method, or with LDID (Cydia/Jailbreak app pseudo-signature).
Now, all apps require some kind of code signature to run on the iPhone and iPod touch. This has been the case since iPhone OS 1.1.3. Even Cydia apps need some sort of signature. We use LDID to code sign our Cydia apps and we use Apple’s method to code sign our App Store apps.
So, we took an iPad (Spirit Jailbreak) on 3.2, an iPhone 3G (Pwnage Tool) 3.1.3, an iPhone 3G S (redsn0w) 3.1.3, an iPhone 3G S (Spirit Jailbroken), and an iPod touch 2G (Spirit) and then restored and redsn0w and we uploaded “n0S1gn” to all of those devices, unsigned, and guess what we found? It failed to work on all devices…except… the iPad.
We have determined that the iPad does not require apps to be code signed, at least when they are installed in /Applications.
This may change the community a lot. We may discover some interesting exploits with this discovery

PRESS RELEASE: LEI Mobile v4.0 Coming On April 2nd!
Hey everyone. Well, I’ve been looking forward to announcing this since I left. Well, today is the day the day that I get to do just that.
Well, as you all know, I announced LEI Mobile v4.0 back in February for a “Late-March” launch, but there was still a lot of work to be done on it, regardless of staff absence or not.
The AVBE v2.7 core still had a bit of work to do, as well as the “HMP Mobile” side of things, as well as a full transition to the new LEIMobile.com transition.
LEI Mobile sports a mess of new internals and it is basically a rewrite from LEI Mobile v3.0, even though it just looks like the GUI is more colorful and more fun to use.
LEI Mobile v4.0 represents about 2 months of work (not counting the initial core work, using our core makes it easier than a 100% rewrite every time).
Now, the LEI Mobile v4.0 project has been very secrative for many reasons, many of which have already been announced at one point or another by either Mike or I. This includes, 2X as responsive as any previous LEI Mobile version, more expandable, Push Notifications, updated GUI (more colorful), more expandable, fixes a major bug found in all previous versions of the core, and it’s overall a better experience.
So everyone should update it on their iPhone/iPod touch if you have LEI Mobile v1.0 -> 3.2 and if you don’t have it, please grab it, it’s a free download from either Cydia or the iTunes App Store.
We’ve updated it to support for iPhone OS 3.0 -> iPad OS 3.2/iPhone OS 3.1.3 and it runs like a dream on even the oldest iPhone or iPod touch.
LEI Mobile v4.0 will be available for free on Cydia on April 2nd, and it will be available for free on the iTunes App Store in “Late-April” as the review process can take an unpredictable amount of time.
