Verizon iPhone Will Require New Cases
Hey guys, news about the Verizon iPhone just doesn’t stop. It appears that the Verizon iPhone will, in fact, require brand new cases. The volume switches and the mute switch have been shifted (as seen in the leaked parts video).
This sucks for all of you current iPhone 4 customers, but it makes no difference to us new users that are just now jumping onboard to the iPhone 4 band waggon.
More news as we get it.

Hey guys, check this out. Looks like a case manufacturer made it to CES this year and they have not only brought “iPad 2″ cases, but they have also managed to make a mock up of the device using machined (CNC Lathed) aluminum.
It’s very interesting and it was made according to what they believe to be the exact specs & dimensions of the device. As you can see, the back is that of an iPod touch. It’s thinner and more squared off in the back (possibly so it can sit on a desk better rather than spinning around).
Here’s what the case manufacturer had to say:
It [the case] was so intriguing that we asked to put our own iPad inside, which is when we were told it wouldn’t fit, since the case was designed for the next iPad. Indeed, the mockup that we found inside the case was a tad bit slimmer than the first-gen iPad, with a taper leading to the edges that reminds us of the iPod touch, and a home button positioned nearer the bottom edge. We found all the typical cutouts on the case, and their mirror on the machined mockup, including a large square for the speaker.

This is Otterbox’s second iPad case and the ultimate iPad cases at that. This baby offers the best possible protection for your iPad (at least from what we have seen so far!). The Otterbox Defender Series for iPad is massive and very rugged. It will definitely add some weight to your devices. If your the type of person who wants to sacrifice protection for style then you should check out the Otterbox Commuter Series Case for the iPad. Please read our review of the Commuter Case for iPad. In this review I will go over the contents & features of the Otterbox Defender Series for iPad, My likes and dislikes, and Our final rating.
If you have already read our review of the Commuter Series Case for the iPad, then you will notice that the package contents are very similar. They actually include some of the same things! The box, minus the writing describing what it is, the biodegradable packaging, and the paper folder with the included plastic screen protector, soft cloth, and squeegee.
So inside the box you have the case itself which is 3 pieces. You will then find a paper envelope that includes the easy to follow instructions, a clear protective piece of plastic for your screen, a soft cloth, and a squeegee. The first thing you are going to want to do is clean your iPad.
Take the included soft cloth and clean all of the finger prints and dust off the screen. You will then want to apply the plastic screen protector and then finally use the squeegee to remove any left over air bubbles. Once you have cleaned off your iPad and applied the screen cover, put on the hard layer of plastic and then wrap it up with the soft rubbery layer.
The Defender Case for iPad comes with a screen cover that doubles as a stand. This is perfect because you can have a stand whenever you need it and a cover to protect the glass when you are traveling.
The stand is very sturdy and will not fall over if you push on it too hard. One downfall for some may be that it is not adjustable but it is at a perfect angle for typing up an email or watching a movie in my opinion anyways. If you find yourself not making use of the stand, you will find it very handy that the outside silicon material is very easy to grip so it will not slide out of your hands easily.
Overall this case is very rugged. I find that I am able to toss(gently still) my iPad all around and not have to worry about it getting damaged or scratched. Since the screen is recessed from the case it will more than likely protect the glass from shattering if you drop it on the face. I did not want to test this just in case I did manage to shatter my iPad…
The only real issues that I have with this case are that the seems are not completely flush when you press the rubbery part of the case onto the hard plastic. The second issue I have is that there is a camera hole… What? This will be nice when Apple finally releases an iPad with a camera. As long as Apple keeps the camera in the expected position, Otterbox will not have to redesign a new case an you will be able to use a Defender case right away when the new iPad comes out. The camera hole however did confuse me a bit when I use the iPad in the dark. It feels like it is the home button so I sometimes try to push it and then quickly realize to switch to the other side. I do however love that all of the buttons and the microphone jack are covered and are still accessible by flipping up a flap. This will help keep liquid out if you happen to spill. It even has snap off access to the iTunes port. I would have preferred a rubber flap like they have on the iPhone cases as the snap off part is one more piece that can get damaged or lost.
Overall I can confirm that this is a must buy for your iPad. It may be a bit pricey for some at $89.95, but you already spent at least $500 on your iPad so you might as well protect it. The Otterbox defender case will double the weight of your iPad. For me this does not bother me at all as the device is large to begin with. If you are looking for a smaller case you will lose some protection. I personally like smaller cases for my iPhone and other electronics that can easily fit in my pocket, but I am not putting the iPad in my pocket, so I want the maximum protection possible; and the Otterbox Defender Series offers just that. Please note that this case is not waterproof and does not make your iPad indestructible. It will however protect your iPad from the occasional spill or drop though. I will proudly give Otterbox 5 out of 5 stars for an excellent must buy case! You can purchase it directly on Otterbox’s website for $89.95.

Review: Otterbox Commuter Case For iPad
Otterbox recently released 2 new cases for Apple’s iPad; The Otterbox Commuter Series for iPad and The Otterbox Defender Series for iPad. These are both 2 of the most popular Otterbox cases. I am personally rocking the Commuter Series for the iPhone. You can read that review ( Review: Otterbox iPhone 3G / 3GS Commuter TL Case ) on our old website. In this review I will go over the contents & features of the Otterbox Commuter Series for iPad, My likes and dislikes, and LEI Mobile’s final rating.
The first thing you will notice when you pickup the packaging of the Otterbox Commuter Case is that all of the contents are biodegradable and recyclable. It seems like everyone is trying to go “Green” these days, so thanks Otterbox!
Inside the box you have the case itself which is made up of 3 pieces. A hard plastic shell with a removable clip so that you can charge and dock your ipad, and a soft silicon/rubber shock protection layer.
Once you have cleaned off your iPad and applied the screen cover, slide the rubber shock resistant layer over the ipad. And then after that just clip on the hard shell.
I will tell you that I was very upset to find out that after applying the hard shell it started to peal off my Zagg Invisible Shield that I had on. Zagg’s screen protectors must be a tad bit thicker than the one that Otterbox includes. You can see “A” and “C” in the pictures below.
The only other issue I had with this case can been seen at “B.” The rubber layer did not fully meet the edge of the hard plastic. This is probably because I may have stretched it out too much when putting it on. This really is no big deal but hey I had to show it.
The Positives of this case really out way the few negatives that this case has. 1st off this case does not add much bulk to the iPad and still offers excellent protection. This case is a mix between style and protection.
I also really like that the USB port is blocked as well as the headphone jack so that no dust and debris can get it. The last thing I really like is the clear plastic circle on the back so that you can still view the Apple logo.
Overall I would give this case a 4 out of 5 stars. Otterbox in my opinion truly make some of the best cases around. The only real reason I would not give this 5 stars is that it did damage the Zagg invisible shield I already had on, but it is nice to know that you get a free plastic shield included! Now the best part of the case is that it is slim and sexy and still protects your expensive device from common mishaps like scratches and may even protect it from a slight water spill if you clean it up very fast. If you are looking for a case that offers maximum protection be sure to check out our review of the Otterbox Defender Series for iPad.
