FIX: Verizon iPhone 4S phone number format incorrect
Do you have a Verizon iPhone 4S that you may have upgraded from AT&T and noticed that your contacts and phone numbers are messed up? Are they missing the dashes? In other words, the phone numbers all look like 7432677431 instead of (743)267-7431.
Most people see this issue if they are upgrading from an iPhone 3G on AT&T to the iPhone 4S on Verizon. When you set up your iPhone 4S and restore from a backup from an old device like the iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS you will run into issues. To fix this problem is pretty simple. All you have to do is have Verizon reactivate your iPhone 4S.
Here are the steps to fix the problem:
1. Open the Phone app and on the keypad dial *228. This is a Verizon over-the-air programming number.
2. When the system answer press 1 for “Program or activate your phone”
3. Wait for the call to disconnect. You should get a prompt stating something like, “Settings updated.”
4. Open the Task Manager by double clicking the home button and close all of the apps by holding down one of them until they wiggle. Then press the minus icon above them to close.
5. Wait a few minutes for everything to update.
6. Open the Message or Contact App to verify everything was fixed.
If the problem is still not fixed, make sure to close out all of your apps and reboot the iPhone.

Apple Now Selling Unlocked iPhone 4S
It is November, just as Apple said, they have released the unlocked iPhone 4S. There is currently a 1-2 week lead time if you order online. You may be able to pick one up sooner if you visit a local Apple store.The unlocked iPhone works only on supported GSM networks, such as AT&T in the U.S. It will also work on T-Mobile USA but you will not get 3G data speeds as Tmobile’s network does not support it. When you travel internationally, you can also use a micro-SIM card from a local GSM carrier. The unlocked iPhone will not work with CDMA carriers such as Verizon Wireless or Sprint.
If you don’t want a multiyear service contract or if you prefer to use a local carrier when traveling abroad, the unlocked iPhone is the best choice. It arrives without a micro-SIM card, so you’ll need an active micro-SIM card from any supported GSM carrier worldwide. To start using it, simply insert the micro-SIM card into the slot on your iPhone and turn it on by pressing and holding the On/Off button for a few seconds. Then follow the onscreen instructions to set up your iPhone.

Apple & Sprint Working On Slow Data Speeds
A leaked internal email suggests that Apple & Sprint are, internally, calling the slow speeds as a “confirmed nationwide issue”. The leaked document suggests that Apple will be pushing an over the air carrier bundle update to fix the issues.
LEI Mobile can now confirm that the Sprint iPhone 4S is indeed seeing a nationwide slow down. I have an iPhone 4S on Sprint as well and I have noticed extremely slow speeds, only going at about 0.50mbps down and an atrocious 0.10mbps up, at the most since I bought my iPhone 4S on launch day.
The screenshot, above, is a speed test I did on my own iPhone 4S (at the time of this writing) to show you that this is not a hoax or just people complaining about nothing, this issue is indeed real.
Now, as we know, AT&T has the fastest 3G network and us Sprint customers shouldn’t expect insanely fast speeds like 7mpbs or anything, even Verizon is a lot slower, about half as fast as AT&T. However, 0.28mbps up/0.02mbps down is unacceptable. I’ve tested other Sprint devices and they have gone up to 2mbps, so after the update, I want to at least see 1.2mbps all the time.
I do believe it could be an issue with the PRL/APN that the iPhone 4S is currently using for Sprint, but Apple and Sprint should hurry up because every day that goes by, people WILL notice and people will make a fuss like they did with AT&T when they used to have the horrible coverage back in 2007/2008.

Apple Selling Unlocked iPhone 4S’s Early. This Is How You can Get It.
Apple released the iPhone 4S on October 14th, 2011 in the US, but only allowed phones to be sold on contract. These phones sold on contract are sold at a discounted price ($199 for 16GB, $299 for 32GB, and $399 for 64GB) and locked to the specific carrier.
Supposedly Sprint’s iPhone 4S is GSM unlocked buy they are going to lock it down. This has yet to be verified. We are waiting for Alan to give us confirmation. Verizon’s iPhone 4S comes locked but you can request an unlock after you have been in good standing for 60 days. Lastly AT&T’s iPhone 4S comes locked if you purchase it at the subsidized price. If you pay the full retail price which is also a non commitment or no contract iPhone 4S you will receive an officially unlocked iPhone 4S.
The best way to make sure that you get a factory unlocked iPhone 4S before Apple’s official release sometime in November is to follow these steps.
1. Go to the Apple Store and ask for a no contract iPhone 4S. An AT&T model. I told them that it was a gift for my brother and did not want to extend his contract.
2. They will then sell you the iPhone 4S at full retail price ($645 for 16GB, $745 for 32GB, and $845 for 64GB).
3. Before you turn the iPhone 4S on make sure to swap the included AT&T sim card with a different sim. I used T-Mobile USA.
4. Plug the iPhone 4S into your computer and open iTunes 10.5+.
5. Go through the setup without selecting wifi, and click connect to iTunes.
6. iTunes will then go through the setup process and you will get the message Congratulations. Your iPhone is Unlocked.
