UltraSn0w Unlocked Updated To Support iOS 4.3.1

The iPhone Dev Team has updated the UltraSn0w unlocking tool to support iOS 4.3.1.  Please note that this is not a new unlock and is only an update for the older basebands. Currently the only way to have an unlocked iPhone on iOS 4.3.1 is to preserve an old unlockable baseband through a custom firmware IPSW upgrade using something like PwnageTool or TinyUmbrella. This updated UltraSn0w also fixes the signal bar issue (only displaying 1 bar) for those who aren’t using the unlock but retain an older baseband intentionally. UltraSn0w is compatible with iPhone 4 baseband 01.59.00 and iPhone 3G/3GS basebands 04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.12.01, 05.13.04 and 06.15.00You can get the update for UltraSn0w in Cydia.

I will have some video tutorials up soon on how to update to iOS 4.3.1 and preserve your baseband so that it is compatible with UltraSnow

PwnageTool & Redsn0w Released w/4.3.1 Untether

Happy Birthday to PwnageTool.  The iPhone Dev Team has pulled through and released the untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3.1.  Thanks to i0n1c!

WARNING — ultrasn0w users don’t update yet! They have to release an update to UltraSn0w.  Please wait for our instructions and Tutorials!

The 4.3.1 untether works on all devices that actually support 4.3.1 except for the iPad2:

  • iPhone3GS
  • iPhone4 (GSM)
  • iPod touch 3G
  • iPod touch 4G
  • iPad1
  • AppleTV 2G (PwnageTool only for now)

The reason the untether won’t work as-is on the iPad2 is that it requires a bootrom or iBoot-level exploit to install, and the iPad2 is not susceptible to either the limera1n or SHAtter bootrom exploits.

iPod4G At iOS 4.3.1 *Untethered Jailbroken*

i0n1c () has released a YouTube Video showing off the iPod Touch 4G jailbroken in an untethered state on iOS 4.3.1. There is no ETA on the release but hopefully it will be out soon.  Here is his official statement:

Meanwhile everyone should have noticed that my prediction became true and Apple released iOS 4.3.1 in order to fix the PWN2OWN vulnerability in Safari. It was very unlikely that Apple also fixed the kernel vulnerability I used for my untether exploit. Mainly because the kernelcache binary is about 8-10 MB in size and the likelihood that Apple finds the same vulnerability in that short amount of time was very low. However you never know until you try it. So this morning when I woke up and saw that Sn0wbreeze 2.4 beta was released I thought it would be fun to create a new video. Unfortunately Sn0wbreeze does not work with my iPad 1 and so I had to test with my iPod 4G. In the video you can see how I switch off the iPod, then restart it, show the version, show that it is tethered and has the multitasking gestures, i show that you can buy ringtones and then I show cydia and the ninja jump game from last time. Because several people misunderstood me in the past: a. I repeatedly stated that I will not release a jailbreak tool – I will only give out the untether. I did not try yet, but if it is feasible the untether could be a cydia package. b. While the vulnerability I use is in the iPad 2 kernel my untether will NOT SUPPORT the iPad 2, because there is no way to install it there (bootrom exploits fixed). – however Comex is working on that part. c. I am not giving out any ETA again, because the Jailbreak community is simply nuts. Last time I gave an ETA and even before that had passed I got constantly insulted by people that were demanding an immediate release. Sorry guys the more you insult people with the knowledge to actually do what YOU WANT the less motivation there is to use our free time to give it to you. d. The only reason why I did not finish the untether before the ETA was due to unexpected work overload in my real job. It had nothing todo with the untether being too hard or unreal. e. I don’t know why the dev team has not released a redsn0w that does tethered jailbreak for 4.3.1 – I would prefer that to be available, cause sn0wbreeze obviously does not work 100% yet. f. iOS 4.3.1 Leaked

Boy Genius has an inside contact at Apple who just installed the unreleased and unseen iOS 4.3.1 build, and have been playing around with it for a couple days. The only changes seen are stated below.

iOS 4.3.1 Change Log:
* Baseband updates for the 3GS and original iPad.
* Fixed memory hang that results in memory corruption when reading large files from USIM filesystem.
* Fixed problem with NTLM authentication in apps and on websites.
* Fixed issue with the Springboard and 3rd party apps not recognizing the gyroscope on the iPad 2.
* Possible fix for iPad 2 jailbreak vulnerability.

We are just guessing the last one, but since the iPad 2 has already been jailbroken, Apple will put in some more security to prevent that. The inside sources says that Apple will release this update within the next few weeks.

Apple Releases iOS 4.3 Version 2 For Apple TV; Fixes Screen Flickering & Sleep Issues

Hey guys, Apple has just released iOS 4.3.1 (It’s seen as 4.2.1 on Apple TV). The update fixes a lot of the issues that people had been experiencing in the past couple weeks since iOS 4.3 (4.2 on Apple TV) was released.

Here is the full change log:

* Addresses issues that may cause the screen to flicker or display incorrect color on some older TVs.

* Addresses an issue where Apple TV may not wake up from sleep.

* Addresses an issue where audio may not be heard on some TV models after switching from another input.

* Apple TV Software Update 4.2.1 includes stability and performance fixes for Apple TV.

You can go to your Apple TV and go to Settings -> General -> Software Update and then it will download automatically! Make sure to download the latest TinyUmbrella and save your SHSH!
