Review: Otterbox iPad 2 Defender Series Case

As most of you know, Otterbox makes some of the best cases around and all of us at LEi Mobile love the protection that they offer. The Otterbox iPad 2 Defender Series Case was somewhat of a let down compared to all of the other Otterbox cases we have reviewed.  The iPad 2 was released in March and Otterbox was unable to produce a case until May.  We expected the iPad 2 version to be very similar to the original iPad Defender Series Case with some improvements. The Otterbox iPad 2 Defender Series Case does offer improvements over the original iPad Defender Series, but also presents some flaws that are a bit annoying.

Review: Snapseed for iPad

Snapseed for iPad is a great mobile photo editor that allows you to enhance photos stored on your iPad. Snapseed creates great quality photos with great new effects that are unique to this app. The app uses new and useful controls that make it easy and fun to edit your photo on your iPad.

You start Snapseed by importing a photo from you library by pressing Open Image. Once you have imported a photo you can add as many affects as you want. Snapseed has several effects that you would expect but they work very well. These effects are Auto Correct, Tune Image, Straighten and Rotate, Crop, and a more interesting Selective Adjust.

The auto correct in the app is phenomenal and I have seen great results. I had one photo that looked very foggy and auto correct cleared it up tremendously. In selective adjust you can add points to adjust in the picture then choose how big of an area you would like it to affect. Then once you have chosen your area you can change the brightness, contrast, and saturation. Some of the more interesting things you can do with this app though are with the special effects. You can make the photo black and white, vintage, drama, grunge, center focus, and add a frame. My favorite affect was grunge, it adds an overlay that makes the photo look old and torn up. From there you can change contrast and basic things like that. In the end you can dramatically change the picture to either an entire new look or a perfectly enhanced picture. Once you have completed your edit you can share it by email, flikr, Facebook or print it. You can also save to your camera roll to do whatever else you want with it.

Overall Snapseed is a great app for editing pictures. I can’t find any problems with it because all the affects are easy to use for basic users but are good enough for professional editors who want to edit on the go.

Below is an example of a before and after photo.

Apple will block iPhone users from filming LIVE events

Apple filed a patent application 18 months ago for software that detects when an iPhone is recording a LIVE event and shuts down the camera function. Infra-red sensors will be installed at the venue to detect the device.  Only the camera function will be disabled.  All other junctions of the iPhone will still be usable including text, email, and phone services.

Everyone involved at the event will greatly appreciate this technology. No longer will your view be blocked by people holding up their cell phones to take pictures and record video.  Also there are many large companies who purchase the exclusive rights to broadcast the events who are getting upset with amateurs uploading and streaming the content to the rest of the world.

It may still be a few years before this technology is set into place, so for those of you who rely on streaming sites to view live events better save up the money to attend them or purchase the pay-per-view.

Tap and Hold for More Info In iOS 5 Music.app

Yet another feature has been discovered in the, what seems to be never ending, iOS 5 Beta. While listening to some music today I pressed one too many seconds long on a song to discover a new info window. When pressing for about 2 seconds a black pop-up appears and displays the song name, album, and artist. Now this is already all displayed but sometimes all of the album and artist name are not visible so this new pop-up displays it. Hopefully Apple might add more info or a possible album artwork preview. Tell me your ideas in the comments of what you would like to see.

Day 1: Is Apple Unlocking Existing iPhones? “We Sell Unlocked Phones?!”

Well that is the response that I received when trying to call AppleCare. It seems as though Apple has not told anyone at their support lines about the new unlocked iPhones. Even their so called, “senior advisors” didn’t sound like they knew much about it until I called.

They told me something rather odd, they said “we don’t unlock iPhones, if you can find a carrier to do it, they can.”, WHAT?! So, if I want T-Mobile, I have to go to T-Mobile and have them use Apple’s unlock whitelisting database?!

Come on Apple! What’s going on here?!

I bought my iPhone 4 for $879.98 on May 3rd. It’s a week over the return date and for the money I (over) paid for this thing, I expect an unlock! Apple, it’s not our fault you don’t tell people that unlocked phones are coming on (insert date here), if you did, we would wait to buy them on that date so we could get an unlock.

Apple, get your act together and let people unlock their iPhone 4s! At least the ones that were purchased unsubsidized in 2011! What do you have to lose?! Nothing! We already bought the phones at full price!

Call Apple, and ask for an unlock, if you guys get them to unlock your iPhone, let us know.

I really hope that this is a communication error and that we will be able to unlock the iPhones that we bought, off contract.
