OS X Lion Gold Master Released to Developers

Apple released a Golden Master (GM) release of OS X Lion and was seeded to developers this afternoon, with a build number of 11A511. If you are a registered developer head over to the dev portal and get the update.

Apple has also seeded a Golden Master version of OS X Lion Server components, Xcode 4.1 Developer Preview 7, and iCloud for OS X Lion Beta 3. Apple has also pushed out a Java for Mac OS X 10.7 release via Software Update.

A GM release is pretty much the final build that will be shipping later this month. We are getting reports that it will be available on the 14th of July.

Send Fake Text Messages With SpoofTexting For iPhone

We have all seen the spoof dialing program where you can prank someone by using any number you want. You call up the spoofing service and they reroute your call so it looks as though you are calling from a different number.  This is always a funny prank to pull on people. You could even change your voice with the built in voice changer.

Now the creators of SpoofCard have also created SpoofTexting where you can fake your text messaging number. Wouldn’t it be funny to message your friend using his girlfriend’s phone number and tell him she is pregnant? Well now  you can. SpoofTexting allows you to send text messages to anyone in the USA from any phone number you want. You can actually specify what number you want the message to appear from! The person receiving the message will not be able to distinguish if the message is really coming from that phone number, or from you spoofing the number. SpoofTexting is an application that you can download on Cydia (must be jailbroken as Apple obviously would not allow this in the AppStore).

SpoofTexting is the only app that can send messages to every wireless provider in the USA, including Sprint, Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile. If you visit the Spooftexting website you can earn free credits to try out the service. Inside the application you can purchase additional credits starting at $4.99 for 10 messages.

Review: HyperSheild

The HyperSheild from HyperShop.com is a basic but functional case for the iPad. The case comes in the colors of the Smart Covers and is compatible to be used with them at the same time. The back of the HyperShield is a sort of matte finish that allows for fairly good grip while the front edge surrounding the iPads screen is slick and smooth. The difference in finish creates a difference in color as the back is a lighter color than the front, but it looks nice and I didn’t have a problem with that. The case is made of Thermoplastic Polyurethane that is popped onto the iPad fairly easily. Once the case is on you can tell a slight difference in the heft of the iPad but nothing that throws off the entire iPad experience. When using the Smart Cover with the HyperSheild (which is sort of required since there is a large part of the iPad that would be exposed without it) all functions work great, the screen turns on and off, the cover stays attached to the front fairly well, and both standing positions for typing and viewing work great. The only issue that I can point out in this great case is that the camera connection kit is not compatible. When trying to plug in the SD card dongle it would not fit. This is disappointing for those of us who may use the iPad for quick and easy photo storage. Other than that there are to many positives to this case to mention and I enjoy it greatly and plan on using it as my primary case combined with my smart cover for a long time. Go get one at HyperShop.com for $19.95 in your Smart Cover’s color!

iOS 5 Beta 2 Released!

Well it’s a few days late by our sources calculations but the second beta of iOS 5 has been released!

Apple has added an animated boot logo as well as enabling Wi-Fi Sync!

Here’s the change log:

- Wireless syncing has been enabled for Mac OS X computers
WiFi Syncing

In iOS 5.0 beta 2, wireless syncing is now available for the Mac. It requires iTunes 10.5 beta 2 and OS X 10.6.8 or Lion. You will see an option to enable wireless syncing when you connect your device to iTunes with the USB cable. It is recommended you perform your initial sync with a cable after restoring your device.

Wireless syncing is triggered automatically when the device is connected to power and on the same network as the paired computer. Or, you can manually trigger a sync from iTunes or from Settings -> General -> iTunes Sync (same network as paired computer required). Be sure your device is plugged into a power source when performing Wireless syncs.
If you find issues with apps, media and/or photos synced to your device, you can reset then resync. From Settings -> General -> Reset, choose Erase all Content and Settings. Then reconnect to iTunes and sync again.

In this beta, iTunes may incorrectly report Photos as “Other” in the capacity bar. Photo syncing otherwise works as expected.

iTunes 10.5 beta 2 and Apple TV Software beta 2 has also been released.

Also other notable issues:

- iMessage from betas 1 and 2 will not work, it is recommended that all beta 1 devices be updated to beta 2 to continue using iMessage

- iCloud servers may be purged several times before the GM is released, DO NOT RELY on iCloud for storage just yet as it will probably get wiped before the public release.

Grab it now!
