Adobe Ends Mobile Flash Development

Well it took some time Adobe has stated they will halt further development for flash on mobile devices. Current devices will receive bug and security fixes but we won’t see new devices with official support for Adobe Flash!

Adobe: “Our future work with Flash on mobile devices will be focused on enabling Flash developers to package native apps with Adobe AIR for all the major app stores. We will no longer adapt Flash Player for mobile devices to new browser, OS version or device configurations. Some of our source code licensees may opt to continue working on and releasing their own implementations. We will continue to support the current Android and PlayBook configurations with critical bug fixes and security updates.”

This is a big blow for the Android Market whereas their main selling point was Flash. Android phone makers will be forced to drop Flash like Apple has for years, or do the Amazon thing and build their own plugin (why don’t we have a plugin that works on iOS, my grandma would be so happy -_-)

This will also be a shock for websites out there too lazy to build their websites with something more concrete that works, say HTML 5, or just loose your mobile audience.

Adobe has confirmed that Flash will be supported on PCs and Macs, but mobile Flash is gone :P

Apple Quickly Releases iOS 5.0.1 beta 2

Apple pushed out iOS 5.0.1 beta 2 in just 2 days. They are trying to hurry up and fix the battery issues people are seeing in the iPhone 4S. I noticed that after updating to iOS 5.0.1 beta 1 my battery was not much better. Hopefully beta 2 fixes the problem for good so that there will not be any more betas and an official release can be made to the public.

This build is an over the air update for users on iOS 5.0.1 beta 1 with a build number of 9A404.

Siri: Sorry, I’m having trouble connecting to the network

Siri, the iPhone 4S’s personal assistant is down yet again. When you ask her to do something like set a timer or reminder etc. Siri responds with “Sorry, I’m having trouble connecting to the network.” It seems like there is an issue with Apple’s servers. Hopefully this gets fixed really soon and does not happen frequently.

UPDATE: It appears Apple’s servers are back up. Siri must think that she gets a break every so often.

Apple Releases 5.0.1 Beta to Developers: Fixes iPhone 4S Battery Issues

Apple has released iOS 5.0.1 to developers to address the battery issues that iPhone 4S users are experiencing. Batteries have been draining in less than 12 hours. The good news is that this is just a bug with iOS 5, but the bad news is that it may take weeks to release it to the public.

If you have a developer account go download it now and report your findings. After just a few hours of testing iOS 5.0.1 on my iPhone 4S, I have not noticed a big difference.

  • OS 5.0.1 beta contains improvements and other bug fixes including:
    • Fixes bugs affecting battery life
    • Adds Multitasking Gestures for original iPad
    • Resolves bugs with Documents in the Cloud
    • Improves voice recognition for Australian users using dictation
    • Contains security improvements
  • iOS 5.0.1 beta introduces a new way for developers to specify files that should remain on device, even in low storage situations.
  • iOS 5.0.1  beta build 4D199

iTunes 10.5.1 Beta 2 was also released at the same time. iTunes 10.5.1 beta 2 includes a number of important stability and performance improvements for iTunes Match, and is a required update for all subscribers to iTunes Match beta. iTunes Match is now also available on your Apple TV. Your iCloud libraries will be deleted at the end of this beta
