FIX: There was a problem downloading the software for the iPad. The requested resource was not found

Are you getting the error “There was a problem downloading the software for the iPad. The requested resource was not found” when trying to upgrade or restore your iDevice?  This seems to happen when you are running a beta version of the iOS firmware and then try to update to the official release.  It could also just be that Apple’s servers are currently overloaded.

To fix the issue, put your iDevice into DFU mode by holding down both the home and power buttons for 10 seconds.  Then release the power button and continue to hold down the home button.  Make sure that the iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch is plugged into your computer.  You will get a message in iTunes saying you need to restore your device.

Next you will want to download the iOS firmware that you want to install.  You can find the download links here: https://leimobile.com/firmware-downloads/ Next hold down the option key if you are on a Mac or the shift key if you are on a windows machine and then click restore in iTunes.  Browse to the firmware you downloaded and let it install.

Thanks so much fixed my problem. I didn’t have to download the firmware that site though. I just clicked “Restore and Update” button in the pop up.

    Many many thanks
I’ve spent many hours trying to understand why iTunes did not allow me to update my iPad to iOS 5. In fact iTunes kept telling me that my iPad software 4.3.4 was already the latest.
And every time I tried to restore my iPad I got the above message. I did what you said and now it’s installing the new software iOS 5. Hopefully everything will be fine after 50 minutes…

Incredible! This blog looks just like my old one!
It’s on a totally different subject but it has pretty much the same page layout and design. Excellent choice of colors!

I used this when trying to downgrade from iOS 7 beta seed 6 to 6.1.4. Worked like a charm. I also had to reinstall iTunes and delete any traces of Apple stuff. Including the beta software download.
