Fix: Lost all of my contacts after iOS 5 with iCloud upgrade

Here is a possible fix if you can still see your contacts in your text message area.

1. Open up the Messages app and view a recent text message from someone you know is saved in your contacts.

2. Scroll up to the very top and you will Contact > at the top right.

3. When you click that you should see the info for that person.  Add Something to the contact like a fake phone number. (You can delete this latter on.)

4. Press the back button and go back to the messages app and magically all you contacts will be restored.

If you can’t see your contacts in the messages app then you will need to restore from a backup in iTunes.

Its because your contacts are syncing with iCloud. Go to iCloud settings and slide sync contacts to off. All of your contacts will reappear.

Thanks Motorola for keeping contacts on my old flip phone. I lost all when I did the iso5 update on my i phone. Tried every way I know how to restore them but no luck. I will be looking for a new phone next time.

This really worked for me. I was getting concerned that I had lost all my contacts. Thanks so much. I ‘ll be curious to know the root cause to this issue.

I don’t know how but this worked – a life saver – thanks so much. Does anyone know if this will happen everytime I sync with iCloud?

it did not work for me. When I tap, it takes me to the 1st message and the options I have are ‘add contact.’ Once that is done, there is no back button to click on. Any other solution.

Thanks so much, it helped me restore all my contacts.
I did not have any text messages saved, this is what i did-
    1. Opened up the message app
    2. On the “To” I typed “a”, I see all contacts then selected one and added a fake number(later deleted)
    3. Saved it, then after some time I saw all my contacts
