SkyDrive: 25GB of Free Cloud Storage
Now, normally we don’t talk much about Microsoft on here. But, when they release an App that gives away free stuff then I think we need to mention them.
At the beginning of December Microsoft release a SkyDrive for iOS app. With this app, you get access to 25 GB of free storage with your free Live account. I have been using the default 2 GB available from Dropbox for quite some time but am always shuffling around documents to make room. Now with 25 GB available, and the app to access them from my iPhone or iPad, I should be set for quite some time. Although, everyone thought 256 MB of RAM was enough computing in the beginning as well….

Apple’s 10th Anniversary Big Announcement
Rumors are flying that Apple is planning on announcing something ahead of WWDC. According to many sources, there are some “training” events being planned for Sunday May 22 at retail stores. Some stores are reporting the training to be at 7am while there are others planned for the evening. Whichever it is, Apple is gearing up for something. BGR is reporting these stipulations on the plans:
- There’s an overnight shift planned for around 10-15 individuals at each Apple Store to work from late Saturday all the way through mid-Sunday.
- During the overnight shift, it’s going to be required that employees lock cell phones in the main office. They will also have to sign an NDA with Apple.
- There are a wide variety of roles, we’re told, for the overnight shift. This includes all visuals staff, a manager, a business team member, a few Genius team members, one back-of-house employee, and a few generic Apple specialists.
- Apple stores have apparently already received hardware to install, and are expecting more hardware to come on Friday or Saturday. All materials that Apple stores have received have been instructed to be under lock and key until after close on Saturday night.
- Apple employees will be putting up black curtains at all stores so that people walking outside cannot see inside.
- Employees have had to download gigabytes of data from Apple corporate labeled, “training” in a password-protected zipped folder that won’t accessible to managers or anyone else until Saturday afternoon.
- Lastly, all Apple retail stores have mandatory meetings on Sunday, May 22nd. Most meeting are scheduled for the morning, but there are evening meetings as well.
What do you think will be released? iPhone 4s, an iPhone for ALL Carriers? New MobileMe features? OS X 10.7 enabled Macs? Or maybe, since there are rumors of releasing a new iPhone at WWDC, that they are going to release a new iPod Classic?

Lima – A New Cydia alternative that’s JailBreak free?
Cydia, as we all know, is the place to download Apple “un-authorized” apps, and it looks like they might have some competition. Lima is reported to be a JailBreak free, Browser based alternative that is coming soon. Coming from Infini Dev Team’s Blog:
Lima is going to be a great installer, and just for notice, we aren’t leaving Icy behind. By the way, we got it working on the iPad and firmware up to 4.3.2 and we are soon releasing v1.4.8, with several bugfixes that came all the way from RipDev’s code and on further releases we are adding Cydia Store purchases. On Lima too!
Now while it is still early on in the development, this looks like it could bring some value focusing on speed, ease of use and reliability. While I don’t know if it will be an exact replacement for Cydia, there are reports that you will be able to manage repositories as well as backup your installed packages.
The demo video below shows a brief look at some of the functionality, and I’m sure Lima will get it’s own homepage as well as maybe a login for users.

White iPhone 4 Thicker Than Black?
So here’s the latest debacle with the White iPhone 4. Are you ready? It’s .02mm bigger!!! According to some early White iPhone owners, this phone is slightly bigger then the Black iPhone 4′s. Does it make a difference? Depends on who you ask. Some people are reporting that they are having problems getting their slide on cases on the new iPhone, while others are saying the difference is so small it just makes your case a little more snug. One question that begs to be asked is: Will case manufacturers try and capitalize on this and come out with “new” White iPhone 4 cases?
Sitting next to each other on a desk, it looks like the plastic on both sides of the White iPhone has increased. Some are saying it’s an illusion and Apple is still listing it on their website as the same 9.3mm thick, although the .02mm that is being reported could be within the allowed tolerances that Apple has. Is this a legitimate issue, or does it just seem thicker? Anyone have both White and Black iPhones that they can measure with a caliper? Let us know.

Who’s going to buy (save) Sprint?
With AT&T-mobile on the horizon, Sprints stocks fell 15%. That leaves them perfect for someone to swoop in and get a great deal on a network. The question is, who? Should Apple buy into the cell provider market? They like to be in control of everything, and I would say this would put them in the drivers seat. They would have their exclusivity back since neither AT&T-mobile nor Verizon would be interested in selling phones for a direct competitor.
Or should Verizon try and put an offer on Sprint? That could go two different ways in my book. If they make an offer right away, they force the FCC/FTC into making a decision on the AT&T/T-Mobile deal. It’s a win-win for Verizon. If the FCC/FTC approves the AT&T-Mobile deal, how can they turn down Verizon/Sprint? If they stop both of them, Verizon still stays top dog in the market.
The other way to approach it for Verizon is to wait and see if the FCC/FTC approves it, then come in with a low offer that Sprint will all but have to accept to prevent exiting out the back door of the wireless market.
