Adobe Ends Mobile Flash Development

Well it took some time Adobe has stated they will halt further development for flash on mobile devices. Current devices will receive bug and security fixes but we won’t see new devices with official support for Adobe Flash!

Adobe: “Our future work with Flash on mobile devices will be focused on enabling Flash developers to package native apps with Adobe AIR for all the major app stores. We will no longer adapt Flash Player for mobile devices to new browser, OS version or device configurations. Some of our source code licensees may opt to continue working on and releasing their own implementations. We will continue to support the current Android and PlayBook configurations with critical bug fixes and security updates.”

This is a big blow for the Android Market whereas their main selling point was Flash. Android phone makers will be forced to drop Flash like Apple has for years, or do the Amazon thing and build their own plugin (why don’t we have a plugin that works on iOS, my grandma would be so happy -_-)

This will also be a shock for websites out there too lazy to build their websites with something more concrete that works, say HTML 5, or just loose your mobile audience.

Adobe has confirmed that Flash will be supported on PCs and Macs, but mobile Flash is gone 😛
